During Spidersilk you may have felt as if you knew some of the places mentioned in the book, however, in Mark's world places like Olympia, Washington or Memphis were a part of Mark's creative world. These cities he would add to his video games in order to give people something to connect with that is both familiar and unfamiliar. Of course, to us the cities in which Mark lived, like Olympus or Memphra, are just an alternative view of what we already know. This is a great technique to help show an alternative reality which leaves readers feeling more a part of their own world and even more curious about the alternative world.

“With a small leap, Mark landed with relief in his silky smooth memory foam bed. The memory foam was soft yet firm all at the same time, making for a satisfying sensation, especially when Mark was mentally prepared for bed.”  - Spidersilk

In Spidersilk Mark actually fights off ghosts who appear in a black mist during one of his “dreams.” The ghost are defeated using different items that Mark finds throughout the book, which create a sonic blast that gives the ghosts a bit more than they bargained for. The ghost, as resilient as they are, begin to reform but there is one major change in them..their noses are white. This is due to the fact that the ghosts were actually blown away by the blast and when they came together they actually breathed in a bit of Mark's atmosphere, which is something they didn't want to do. The white represents a change in them and is used as a direct contrast to the black so it is easy to the change. The ghost scatter knowing that they are now changed.

“I could have rendered guests as well as real ones!”- Mark in Spidersilk

In Spidersilk there are many relationships that tend to connect with one another more than the typical relationship. One such example is that of Tia and Tina. Although Tia isn't of the same dimension as Tina she finds herself connected with Tina and Mark and eventually finds herself becoming Mark's ally against the ghosts. During this time, Tina is lost and ends up perishing in Mark's dimension, of course she is reborn into a new dimension as Jara where she is given the chance to have a brighter and more youthful outlook. After accepting this shinier version of herself Tina is disconnected from Mark who could have saved her from the black ghosts. With this rewrite of her own self Tina separates from her real life forever, which just goes to show things aren't always greener.

When it comes to the story of Spidersilk you may see a subtle resemblance to that of Robin Hood. Chris Vocal, the CEO of the company Mark is contracted to, actually begins the story as a struggling worker in his own dimension. It isn't until Vocal finds himself in Mark's dimension that he becomes incredibly rich. Of course, Vocal does a fair amount of robbing from Mark and his friends, so there is no telling how many people lost their cash to Vocal and his colleagues. This follows the Robin Hood story quite a bit though, as it has been documented that dear ole Robin wasn't exactly giving up a whole lot of the money he robbed to the poor.

“Casually, with a sort of partial attention, Mark carved one scoop of espresso from the bag and started his morning cup.”- Spidersilk

In Spidersilk, Mark finds himself visiting the theater with Mairis. Although it might seem like the two of them simply hanging out there is a lot of hidden elements in the description of the theater as well as the movie choices. If you notice, the theater is actually shaped like a spider web which hints at the spiders that were protection Mark. It is also a design of Ramses who plays a major role in the outcome of the story. That's not all though. Each of the movie titles shows an element in the book! Of course, Mark gravitates towards the movie that hints at being a master of Khi, which seems to show quite a bit about our leading man.
