A Sign of Hope

The falcon plays a major role in the rescue of Mark's friends, as well as the capture of men who had been abducting people and robbing them of technology. In the book the falcon seems to play a mysterious role to Isis, who looks to it as an entirely desperate move. When the falcon flies away she doesn't think twice about it until help finally comes. There are many different symbols for the falcon in literature and ancient folklore. One such symbol is that of victory and rising above the situation. In other stories it represents guardianship, visionary power and wisdom. We know that the falcon helped saved Isis from the captors, but when you think about it the falcon itself could be a symbol for Mark, who easily jumps dimensions and defeats the villains. Another factor about the falcon is it is the symbol of the rising sun. Before the falcon is introduced Mark actually has contact with an Indian guide who warns that the villain has problems with his “silent sun.” So, how deep do you think the falcon actually runs through this exciting story?
