Spidersilk the novel has many connections with mythology. One of these connections is the character of Thoth. In the novel, Thoth works with John to get down to the bottom of the disappearances, while in mythology Thoth was the god of writing, wisdom in magic. We can see some of this come to play in work with John as he often works writing things down and doing detective work on the case.
