With all of the news from NASA about a new solar system discovery, it’s equally exciting to find out that spider silk from the recluse spider may be the material used to create space clothing as well as other equipment needed to make traveling to distant planets possible. Although the recluse is known for its dangerous bite, its new reputation may be for the way it is going to change the way humans live. Because the recluse shows scientists just how its spinner works, unlike many other spiders, they are now able to recreate this action for bulk production.

“Now, now. We will deal with you. It is better if you stay on your side of the fence. Tell me where Tina is.’ It laughed and hissed a bit. Mark simply exited the parking lot in his Acura.”_Spidersilk the novel

For some time now, scientists have been working on a way to make synthetic spider silk. Although they have made great strides in the area, nothing compared entirely to the real deal. That is, until recently when they made a breakthrough.  This year, scientist figured out how to make the synthetic silk almost as strong using only the protein from ten rice grains. This spider silk is even easy to mass produce, which was another problem scientists were running into.

“Despite the fact that there was only air beneath his legs, he would again leap and soar. Mark could easily control his movement by shifting left or right. Mark soared through the sky a brief while in this manner when an in-flight falcon suddenly maneuvered to his immediate vicinity. It soared next to him and showed him unusual curiosity.”_Spidersilk the novel
